The Wretched Saint Valentine

So the story goes, Emperor Claudius II didn't let his Roman soldiers marry. He thought it took their attention from being effective war fighters .. Then there was this priest, who against the emperor's instruction, would marry loving couples in secret. He was known in the area as a doctor and the guy who took care of, and ministered to the wretched inmates of the tulliam dungeons.

Welp, the priest got busted marrying lovers and was thrown in jail alongside those wretched. Seems he was locked up for about a year an a half, and meanwhile befriended a young blind girl, who was the daughter to the jailer. Over the time, he helped the girl gain her sight by medical means of oils, no miracles, just simple medicine.

Before he was dragged into the public square, beaten to death on the command of the Emperor, then beheaded ... he wrote his young friend a goodbye letter with a blessing and signed it
